Kokukokuboo (Kokuhane): Critical Analysis
Yes my friends its time for another rousing review, fresh from my comparison of the mighty Husky duo from last time, I want to take the time to give someone I think gives one of the best feelings of what art really stands for, not just in true beauty but raw talent and the effectiveness of their words resonating within every piece they do. Today we are going to talk about Kokuhane and not only his style but who is is and what he provides not just to the fandom but everywhere else...you'll see my point soon enough.
First things first, Kokuhane is not your typical artist among the fandom I generally am a part of. He is somewhat of a mixed bag of things that go around the fandoms deeply associated within the bara fandom, not just ranging from furry or porn, in fact he goes about his normal everyday life as such through the lense of a creator. What comes to mind comes to mind. Lets start with the factor that does make him eligible for this review, his sona. In accordance I cant really imaging the essence here where he does belong nowadays considering much of the work he does is on twitter or his patreon, or his gumroad. Go figure someone who branches out boo who..still reviewing them cause they do other things and I don't care!!!!
Typically, its really cool that his sona is an gengar. it really does showcase his love of the paranormal and the essennce that comes with it (ill get more on that later), but its here I wanted to talk about how he is as a person regarding much of his artwork and his intake within the fandom itself. As far as one can tell he is probably one of the most upstanding, respectable, and coherent artist within the genre of bara. His attitude around people can be comical and heartwarming, giving thanks to many compliments on his art regardless of the follower count. Something to admire, but I think one of the true testaments is to his boyfriend.
His relationship status is happily taken with the big, buff "not cute", and lovable Charizard Charkonian. The two have been together for far more than twitter first started for them so safe to assume this relationship as spanned roughly more than 4 years at most and by god is it heartwarming. Not only from the percpective that this fandom can actually match people up at any point given the connection and the amount of time one can ideally showcase their love for one another through art, but its through Chark himself that shows the gentle and warm nature from Koku entire personality. The only reason I talk hear about it is because its part of his true essence as an artist as well as personality to start getting deeper. Now from Charks perspective, he was quiet and reclusive but the more he talked about to Koku, the more he opened up and became happier, and that in my eyes is all that is needed to tell me about how he is a caring guy able to talk to someone on even terms and get to know you (Note: seriously don't do this to every artist you see, they cant all have too many friends, some still make a living lol). But now onto the good stuff.
Kokus works are broad and pretty extenuating to the exact precise detailing that comes from drawing and flushing out characters. His lines are crisp and clear with large tones of colors splashed in regards to the needs and feel of the piece provided. The coloring is done very fluently to the exact entitlement of what hes going for, and it shows that hes really putting in effort every day, making new OC, doing fanart, and even some other things inbetween. I swore when I first got into bara I thought he was an amazing artist and really knew how to get the male figure right. His style actually compliments different variations and shows the nurtured skill toned with years of hard work. Granted I will get into his style in a moment but I did want to give him credit on the amount awesome pics of Housamo (personal thanks on how badass you make some of them!!!). his patreon is sprawled with many unique percpectives of art ranging from soft and sweet, to kinky as all hell, and again nothing wrong with it and personally love it. The essence to Kokus ideals is really broad and I will get to it, but I wanted to talk about his key prospects before moving on.
In many ways theres the sense that many people out there know who he is considering his massive following on twitter. It is really awesome seeing that an avid artist who started off is taking off so far into the limelight of success, and its without saying, his artwork is fucking phenomenal, granted there is maybe one or two things he can fix up but regardless, its time to talk about why hes an amazing artist and discuss his style.
Lets start with his style. For one there is a broad range to it that many can consider is something for everyone. He caters not only to the furry community and the fandom but also to the straight bara and by god does he get it right. I can tell that hes spent many times working on the male form and its extenuated really well in the finished product. The buff exteriors are contoured just right to show off the physique he wants to show, abs that are actually realistically able to get rather than washboard and pecs I swear could be used as pillows. The line work is even the clear and you know where the dividing line is for where things start separating and its impeccable(not sorry for the pun) how much he really does what he loves. On the other side there is the feelings coming from these pieces and it goes into his motif.
His motif normally and usually shows a heartwarming feeling to them, the buff burly guy that literally is smiling and blushing all the time. The rosy coloring always makes them seem so innocent and approachable and I kinda think its an reflection on him as a person being approachable and kind of heartwarming. Yes some of his pieces are kinky and porn but the use of the facial expression always sells the approach and the tone of the art. No person looks like their in pain or ever against their own will. They are with someone they trust and care about that is making them feel that pleasure and assuring that they will come out happy as can be. Granted I do enjoy some kinky pieces(..don't judge me...).
His style is also very wide ranged, while many simply will accompany that his realistic bara style is there, it also ranges from furry to even chibi. Its pretty well done that an artist can actually persist as well as adapt to another style this easily after years of practice, and on the other hand making it appear these gruff and bulky guys are now an adorable miniature of themselves capable of nothing but a good hug. I enjoy seeing these pieces through my feed on twitter and it helps articulate that there is more than one style an artist can go by. If I could say anything, its that he really takes pride in what he does and even as his time goes he does actually open up about what he can improve on in himself, while nowadays hes definitely close to the apex of his skill, there's still always more room for improvement.
His detailing is very phenomenal and he makes things very cleanly. He lives no rough lines to be exposed and everything is smoothed down for the viewer. Some artist leave the rough lines as a sign of their own style, certain ones do this well giving more of an edgier and tough looking aspect to their art. For Koku the smooth shading and coloration is sweet and warming, even when the colors come off as dark and forboding theres still that essence involved within his works that makes them feel softer, and when using warmer colors, its very much eye catching to the center pieces. theres a lot in his works that showcase his love of paranormal as well as dark atmosphere in his work. they have aspects of demons to angels, monsters and even things i couldnt even think of, all of whom got great looks and sweet detailing in the mix, so far there are.......geez i cant tell how many OC this guy has, hes just got lots to work with........
I would say that my favorite attribute is literally is entire imagination to his OC's and other works. His mind races ideas out and every kind of piece he makes is so much different from the last even with different variations, he can morph the body into different continuations of itself, even using the same model and adding more details and differences and makes them all the same unique, ranging from demons and monsters, to furries and human itself. The morphology really is something to admire and transformation seems to be the way to go for him. He takes time to do his work and even go out for a snack and coffee to relax but even then is still at his tablet drawing away. The only thing he wants to improve is his fanart as his mind usually works in the way many do, more through loose interpretation of imagination of what comes to mind and going from there, not taking what's in front of them and creating something from it. That's no shame and other artists are different so I can personally give an insight that its no big deal, hell I actually kind of like his work all together, his unique perspective of creatures and the human body really are admirable and the actions of the pieces is just there to give you that feeling like you can get through the day. In all I think Koku might be one of the better artist out there, not only because I have seen his works evolving over time, but because hes charismatic and very heartfelt on and off the tablet. In coming times I hope he does a lot more and I look forward to seeing his next finished product on my twitter feed.
