It's faster to write in the language you're comfortable with - then translate everything to another language (that you're not so familiar with) than to be trying to write in a second language from the get go.
If he tried to write the game in english from the start then I suspect we'd see the Scene Creation (writing and concepting) progress tracker slow to a crawl every update.
