Decided to try making a character based off of a flatworm. Because life is short and the world needs more unconventional fursonae.
I had to draw the little creature this friend is based on for a biology class. I had to take several liberties because my artistic abilities and biological knowledge are NOT high level enough for the task. Not yet anyhow. Friend traits include, they're very squishy and often slightly damp, they're a little translucent and tend to turn colors when drinking a dyed drink, they probably need glasses. They dress like there's no yesterday and cry like there's no tomorrow.
I've also been considering making More Messed Up Lore for the Heirs in this weird post-apoc setting.
Even the most organic of Heirs is not completely natural. They tend to have metal supports that grow in addition to bones, or their joints are unusually efficient in design, or parts of their nervous systems include what almost seems like electronic pinouts. Little signs that they were Designed and Optimized.
This would not be revealed DIRECTLY to the viewers. Rather, you'd see stuff about metal-rich foods (and an indirect reminder that most synth don't eat), or there's a view of an anatomical chart with some bones that are oddly straight. Or something. I don't know.
In the case of this character, they would likely have a partially metal, partially cartilage skeleton, since trying to draw a skeleton from a creature that doesn't even know what bones are would. Not work. I'd imagine there are artificial templates that are followed in cases like these. With higher metal concentrations where bones Aren't Supposed To Be according to the natural species templates. For fun.
How the templates work, exactly, is a mystery. To you and me. The setting's scientists have been working on finding the math behind it, but they don't much like what little they've figured out. I'm not going to explain it, please just accept that there are furries, and that they can live.
Also. A LOT of Heirs have multiple different animals as Templates. This creature has the planarian as their main template, but also draw from a few salamanders.
Some Heirs have a LOT of artificial tissue, or are intentionally missing pieces. This was seen a lot more often when the Founders were still tampering with them, and seen especially with projects like Stormflower, where being half robot was a requirement for surviving in Stasis.

They're a cute little thing!
parts of their nervous systems include what almost seems like electronic pinoutsOr could be optical, like me?
higher metal concentrations where bones Aren't Supposed To BeReminds me of near the ending of Unicorn Jelly, where we see a slime-creature who puts in metal struts every morning to be able to walk around on two legs more easily. And (to a lesser extent) the Sqids from Freefall, who are normally floppy octopus-things but use a variety of sticks and crutches to walk around on land quite effectively. (And with his advanced human-made suit, Sam can even outrun an angry chasing mob of humans. Repeatedly.)

The former is ser in a quite different world, and is pretty imaginative in its conworlding but its themes and style wander all over the place from wonderous magic to hard fictional physics.
The latter is set in a fairly realistic future, and centers around non-human intelligences, though there are plenty of humans around. It's pretty light-hearted even when tackling when would otherwise be dark topics. There is a weird rhythm when reading the archive due to it using a three-panel format and almost always fitting a ounchline in the third panel.
I don't know which you'd like most, if you have time to read either of them.
