The Berkley Fusion 19 drop shot hook is also a great one to use. One tip not mentioned here is, instead of tying your polymer knot, and tying your weight to the tag end, you can simply thread your line straight through the eye, and peg your hook with two bobber stops. 1 on top, and one on the bottom. You can then quickly adjust your tag end length, and also not have that dreaded line break, where you bring your tag end back through the eyelid of your hook. Thanks for all your great content, keep up the great work.
Great juice. This is the most underrated channel on YT. I really appreciate you putting so much work into these videos. I’m learning so much thanks again.
I believe that what you are saying because I had a bass hit my drop shot rig as I was dragging it in close to the bank, and just letting it sit in the water!!!! So thumbs up, Z
Haven't used this rig yet but I was catching bass yesterday swimming a worm with hardly any extra movement. Just kept a slow steady retrieve. When I started fishing yesterday I was bouncing the Texas rigged worm and pausing and would get small hits but nothing solid. Went to swimming it and had a much better day. I know on lake Erie the hot two rigs are drop shot and Ned rigging for walleye and smallies. Good technique advice as well continued success.
I’ve fished Lake St. Clair my whole life and Ty is absolutely right on not imparting a whole lot of movement on drop shots bates. Just slowly move your rig and the fish will just explode that bite . Thank you .
Ty. I agree. Keep telling friends who give up cuz I'm catching and they aren't on 12 leader. I use a 30" leader. Even shallow slightly molding along its still only about 15"" off bottom until closer in deep water it's higher. They don't realize on long cast the bait drags lower because of rod.
I live on man made lakes in Louisiana and I just saw your video. Loved it!! You explain the drop shot perfect. We are in April and the weather it perfect for bass fishing. Lots of over cast days with thunder storms rolling at night. The drop shot works GREAT. I just walk out my door with the pole and head to the levy. My pole is ready always with the drop shot on it and purple worm. Happy fishing everyone. Please do a video when its windy. Not sure how to fish in strong wind so I use a crankbait Rapala DT- orange, I will take suggestions. Sometimes I get lucky but not always. Would love to know how to fish in wind. Thanks for your video, you deliver great information and it makes me want to watch another one!
VMC also makes a finesse version of the neko hook that has a fluorocarbon keeper. I've started using that for Texas rigging drop shot baits and it's been working great so far. I've been rigging the nose hook the same way you showed and it really does reduce line twist. I'm certainly guilty of overworking a drop shot at times. It's so easy for me to get impatient with it but it's something I'm definitely working to improve on. Great tips, thanks!
Man this is one of the best videos on drop shot I have ever seen. Never thought to hide the hook to make it weedless. I do all the mistakes you’re talking about, like giving it to much action. Thanks for the tips and I will put them into practice!
I almost exclusively use this on every trip it’s the first thing I ever started with because it’s what my papa taught me and it’s my favorite to this day I’ve caught from 5lb smallmouth on lake st Clair to 5 ounce largemouth in a shallow pond it’s such a wonderful rig that everyone should try!
We have a local lake that use to be an excellent bass lake but now it's all about recreation. The bass bite is hard & alot of the cover is disrupted daily. I used this technique in late winter & went frome 1 or 2 fish up to 13 fish in 3 hours. Also caught 2 crappie that im not counting. Thank you for this very educational video. Good luck my friend!
line twist is the achilleas heel of the drop shot. I always have 3 rods setup this way on the boat because I hate re-rigging in the middle of a hot bite. Arron Martins showed a "gilly" way of hooking soft plastics and it is very effective but twists your line like no other. Love the videos. Very solid information.
for many years I have used a tiny barrel/quality swivel up the line a ways , but below the tiptop guide and my buddies also laugh, but it eliminates all line twist to the point that its out of sight and out of mind. I don't believe it cuts down the number of bites I get what so ever.
Great tips as usual. I've been trying to build more confidence in the drop shot / and power shotting. Just learned wacky rigging a worm on the drop shot works great.
I've thanked you before and agree with so many that your presentation is clear, informative and entertaining in a unique way. So, I decided to buy an expensive hat to support your channel , and will wear it next time I get out with drop shotting on my mind!
I'm a salt water guy and just got back into fresh water because my mom lives in one of those developments with ponds surrounded it. So I've been hooking the worm with no weight straight through leaving the hook exposed. And I've caught a few fish. But watching this video explains what I'm doing wrong
This was a very enlightening video. I am glad that I got 1 of the 3 mistakes correct. I will definitely start using a different hook because the drop shot hooks I use I seem to miss a lot of hook ups. I do vary my leader length but how do you do the without retying, I would think that takes a retie...thank you for the lesson....I always wondered if you could cast a drop shot... you answered that for me.....
you can also fish it for trout, and i have caught few off it. drop shot is love and hate relationship, although most times you dont wana use it but its only thing they want to bite. decent size trout 2-4lbs on roboworm, morning dawn is also my goto color for drop shot. Gona use the trick thanks!
I have heard power fishing guys call it the fairy wand. Just makes fish magically appear with the dainty hardware. Lol I personally love it. I use cheap stuff. #1 needle point hooks with a large split shot at the bottom. I also tie a clinch knot with a long tag end instead of a Palomar. Lol it works just as well as any specific hardware and knot. 8lb fluorocarbon. Good to go. Complicate it anyway you like and it will still just flat out work. Seriously the bend on a needle point hook does not affect anything. Over think it amd over rig it amd it will cost you money but not fish. It works.
I agree with almost all that you said. Lots of info in this vid not commonly discussed in the fishing community here on RUclips. Very good stuff. I do find use for imparting action with a dropshot in some situations as opposed to dead sticking all the time but that's me.
thanks for the advice. I continue to try all the late summer month techniques and no matter what I do, we have not been successful. Only 2 fish in the last 5 outings and with only 1 being a bass. I am convinced there are no bass in Lake Wylie, SC.
Yeah, tip embedded, just saw Randy Blaukat on Intuitive Angler pointing this out. This how I hook my baits to overcome all the algae, grasses, etc., from making my tackle look like a Christmas tree.
I usually pass by drop shot videos cause if I’m going fish with lines and weights going it different directions, I’d rather use a Carolina Rig. I used them a lot MANY years ago when I was fishing for Croakers and blues in eastern NC. Again Kaylee Gibbs is right. Thanks BHQ!
Such helpful info, thank you! I’ve been struggling with my dropshot forever! I just can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong, but hopefully with these tips I’ll get more confidence with it.👍🏻🎣 What’s your opinion on using a BFS for drop shotting instead of a spinning rig?
When I tie my dropshots if I’m not using worms, I use a loop knot to hold my hook about .5inch or less from the line I wanna get it as close as possible but I basically tie up a dropper rig w a mini loop coming off the main line with a hook attached for anything that has a top and bottom too it and I notice the drop shot acts a little more free and the loop absorbs some of the jolts you give the line w the rod making the action more softer and even more realistic
Bout 7 feet or less I’ll have it about 6-8 inches from the weight and I’ll use a 1/8oz sinker and just work it slow all up and down the water column like a lil fish exploring his new life in the wrong area
I’ll do a really slow pull up and back and reset my rod and let the drop shot coast down I always vary the pause between this and I occasionally give it a lil twitch on its downfall(like every other one but not literally in that pattern) [make it unpredictable like a little fish would be]
Dude I absolutely love your channel and I’ve gained so much confidence in fishing this summer just from watching your videos I make sure to share it with my friends or beginner anglers.
Long shank finesse Trokar also good. Hook up ratio went way up when I changed to long shank. Also went up when I switched from medium light to medium rod.
Great information thank you i was fishing a drop shot the other day and i was just raising my rod tip up and letting it fall back down will that work asking because i did do catch anything
What a great video and wish we had some of the sporting species over here in the uk ….. was wandering as I’m fairly new to lure fishing would these methods work over here for the pike , Zander and perch ??? Much appreciated and thankyou 👍👍😎😎🎣🎣
Just getting back into bass fishing again. Been many years since I fished. I really enjoy your videos. I noticed you said you change lines a lot. Do you save that line or trash it and put fresh on every time? TIA
I’ve used those roboworm rebarb hooks and I didn’t like them at all, IMO the wire in to small. I’ve switched to using a 1/0 gamakatsu ewg worm hook and for a nose hook I’ll use a 2 owner mosquito hook and have had better luck. For baits I like to use roboworm straight tail md, or oxblood, or 5150 plastics md, pb&j, papa punisher and few more.
Great Intel my friend thank you. Can you use a small finesse Jig instead of just a weight at the end or should it be just a weight? I’m just getting back into fishing after off for a few Decades. I know these new Reels with the magnetic brakes are different than my Abu Ambassadeur 5500 pro max I used for 20 plus years. Semper Fidelis my Friend
Was wondering if you have done a video in-depth on drop shots? This is Still one of my Achilles heels that I don’t do well with. Not sure if it’s the way I work at, later length like you talked about but would like to see just how you do it. Some of the videos I have watched show a lot but Don’t explain enough. Hopefully with your help we can turn this corner. Thanks for your help
What knot do u like for 10lb braid to 8lb floro, ive been using the red phillips this year, it can cast funky if u don’t trim it right but it’s strong. I totally believe ur leader length point, yesterday i was getting bit with a 20” leader, i was running out of floro and broke off so i retied with about a 12” leader and couldn’t figure out why the bite stopped. Thanks for posting
Sometimes leader length does not make a difference. However I have seen it make a huge difference at other times. I tie an Alberto knot for my braid to fluoro, but as long as your not breaking the knot and not having issues casting it, use whatever works for you!
Question. How about two hooks on the line? Say one at 8 inches and one up,higher? Then see how the bite is at which depth and go from there on the leader?

Genius on the bobber stops, can't believe i didn't think of that.
This is a genius idea, man thanks..I never thought of using 2 bobber stops🤦🏾♂️😂

I agree with Kaylee❕
He's great and I just love listening to him, the kind of guy I want to be around for sure!

Good stuff.....on these hot, bright and sunny days a drop is about the only thing I can get bit on...this is a good way to switch things up a little.
Thanks for sharing. I have not used the drop shot yet. But now, I feel more confidence in it.
Tip: Leave a long leader and just move your weight up and down to change how deep the bait is. It's easy to do with clip on weights.
Who uses clip on weights these days?
@@ThatSB literally everyone that I know. A lot of pros even use them.
Never even thought of using clip on weight for drop shot. That’s actually a good idea
Great idea 👍
We use clip on weights in the uk gives you different depths to find where they are feeding
I love the way you lay out each tip and explain them, great videos!

Never understood why people had to come up with a new name (bubba shot, power shot) when its just the same thing
Right on great tip on the nose hook thanks 😊
Don't overwork it, one of the most true statements not only in fishing but in life, thank you for the great instructional video.
People wanna throw hard bait, it's way more fun, but sadly fishing can't always be like that.
I like this ds knot. Very easy to tie. Keeps hook up and less tangles. I like the ds hook with the little bent down eye
Great vid. I always thought fish went deeper when the water temperature rises. Learn something new every day I guess.
Morning dawn has been 🔥🔥 for me this year
I love the way you explain stuff, you cover all different situations 👍👍 keep it up, it's great , ty

Great tips for the dropshot. I'm gonna have to start hooking my bait this way. I've always just ran it thru the nose of the bait.
Solid information, you should also adjust for the bottom vegetation.

VMC makes killer terminal tackle. Probably my favorite overall brand for terminal tackle.
Great video, thanks for the tips 👍
Caught my first suspended bass today dropshotting using a 3 1/2" leader!! Thanks for the tip!!
Good info. I haven't used a drop shot much. It seems like a good way to catch bass.
Needed this, even though I have tons of confidence, you miss certain things. 👍
Such helpful info, thank you! I’ve been struggling with my dropshot forever! I just can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong, but hopefully with these tips I’ll get more confidence with it.👍🏻🎣
What’s your opinion on using a BFS for drop shotting instead of a spinning rig?
That vmc is my favorite wacky hook as well
A wanted to start practicing with a drop. Thanks for the tips . 👍
I use a long leader to get above the grass it's a pain to cast as well but it works well for me.
Youve made me a better fisher in a weeks time

Long shank finesse Trokar also good. Hook up ratio went way up when I changed to long shank. Also went up when I switched from medium light to medium rod.
I agree with the long shank helping. I switched to Aberdeen hooks and they work great
i use splitshots for nose hooked dropshot

Drop shot life brother! Great stuff
I like to use very light twitches and then slightly drop the rod tip to let it fall for a few seconds
